2017 Outbreak of Norovirus, Wild Ginger Restaurant, Bellevue, Washington

On December 26, 2017 Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) staff learned of 5 ill persons from one meal party that became ill after consuming food and beverage on December 22 at Wild Ginger, a restaurant located in Bellevue, Washington. An additional 16 persons from 6 separate meal parties also reported illness following meals eaten between December 22 and December 24. Six employees experienced symptoms consistent with norovirus dating back to December 21. In total 27 case patients were identified. No one was hospitalized and no one died. Environmental health investigators visited the restaurant on December 26. During the field visit, investigators did not identify any risk factors that could contribute to the spread of norovirus, however, they did observe violations related to improper hot and cold holding of foods. On December 27 investigators revisited the restaurant which was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. There were no additional reports of illness.
