Oil Refinery Tuna 2006

Six employees of an oil refinery in Louisiana became ill after eating at the company cafeteria. Their symptoms resembled an allergic reaction; they reported eating tuna at the cafeteria. With these facts, they were diagnosed probable scombroid poisoning, and the remaining tuna was removed from the cafeteria. Tests on the fish did not show high levels of histamine, nor was there any indication of poor handling of the fish during shipping in the U.S. However, the fish was caught in Malaysia, and shipped to Boston before Louisiana, leaving plenty of opportunity for mishandling.
