1987 Outbreak of Botulism Linked to Homemade Cabbage Salad Dressing, Florida
Four circus performers in Sarasota, Florida developed botulism after eating coleslaw made with prepackaged shredded cabbage and coleslaw dressing purchased three weeks earlier. The coleslaw dressing contained cabbage and carrot pieces. Preformed botulinum toxin and spores were found in the dressing.
