1990 Outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis at a Chicago Convention, Illinois
A bread pudding with vanilla dessert was implicated in an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis, phage type 8. No other foods were associated with illness. The outbreak occurred among persons who attended a convention on September 30, 1990. The bread pudding was prepared with eggs that were likely to be undercooked. The dessert was left at room temperature for 1 to 4 hours before it was served. The eggs were traced to one farm.
