1990 Outbreak of Salmonella Infantis and Staphylococcus aureus at a State Prison, Florida
Eating turkey at the evening meal on October 10,1990 was associated with a risk of illness at a Florida state prison. Salmonella Infantis and Staphylococcus aureus were isolated from leftover samples of turkey. Salmonella Infantis was isolated from 18 of 20 stool specimens. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from the nares of food workers, however the strains isolated did not match the strain that was found in the turkey. Improper food-handling practices contributed to the development of this outbreak.
