Raw eggs were used to make ice cream for a hospital sponsored cookout. Twelve of fourteen people who attended the cookout became ill; eleven remembered eating ice cream. No other food item was associated with illness. Salmonella Enteritidis, phage type 13a was isolated from three ill persons and from the ice cream. The eggs originated from a distributor in Florida. The farm origin of the eggs could not be traced as the distributor had obtained eggs from many farm sources.
