1996 Multistate and Multiprovince Outbreak of Cyclospora Infections Linked to Guatemalan Raspberries
In May and June 1996, laboratory confirmed cases of Cyclospora cayetanensis were reported in persons residing in the United States and Ontario, Canada. Eventually cases were found in twenty U.S. states and the District of Columbia and in the Canadian Provinces of Quebec and Ontario. The investigations implicated the consumption of raspberries as a risk factor for illness. Traceback investigations indicated that the raspberries originated from Guatemala.
