1996 Outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis Infections at the Denver Zoological Gardens, Colorado
A confirmed outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections was linked to visitation of a temporary Komodo dragon exhibit at the Denver Zoological Gardens and touching the protective barrier around the exhibit. Even two weeks after the exhibit closed, investigators were able to isolate the same strain of Salmonella Enteritidis from the barrier rail.
