Thirteen people associated with a Los Angeles, California, Girl Scout troop were diagnosed with Salmonella Entertidis after eating at a group meal. The illness were linked to raw egg yolks and whites in a cheesecake made at the meal. The eggs had been cooked in a double boiler until slightly thickened. The farm where the eggs originated was inspected and samples were taken for analysis. Twenty one swab samples from the farm tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis, nineteen were phage type 4 and two were type 7. Based on these findings, the chickens were killed to prevent further Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses.
