2001 Outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis Infections linked to Consumption of Thai Basil, British Columbia, Canada
An outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis gastroenteritis was identified in British Columbia, Canada. Illnesses were epidemiologically linked to the consumption of Thai basil. No cyclospora were identified in the samples of basil that were tested. Thai basil is also referred to as Siam Queen and is commonly used in Vietnamese cuisine. Fresh basil had been implicated in previous outbreaks of Cyclosporiasis.
