2002 Outbreak of Clostridium perfringens Associated with Rosati's Pizza, Illinois
In August 2002, McHenry County Health Department (MCHD) investigated an outbreak of C. perfringens associated with Rosati's Pizza located in Cary, Illinois. Eighteen individuals from 2 separate groups were ill. Illness was associated with consumption of beef au jus. Eight clinical specimens were positive for Clostridium perfringens. Beef samples were also positive for C. perfringens. An inspection conducted by MCHD found numerous deficiencies in the preparation of the beef which would allow for rapid multiplication of C. perfringens.
