2004 Multistate Outbreak of Cyclospora Infections Linked to Basil and Mesclun/Spring Mix Salad Products
The Food & Drug Administration issued an alert to consumers about two outbreak clusters of gastrointestinal illness caused by Cyclospora. The first cluster, consisting of at least 57 cases, occurred in Wheaton, Illinois. The second cluster of 38 cases, occurred later in the same month, in Irving, Texas. In both clusters, eating basil and mesclun lettuce at restaurants was linked to illness. The brand of basil and mesclun salad was not identified.
