Complaints of gastrointestinal illness after eating at an Inver Grove Heights restaurant prompted an investigation by the health department. Patrons of the restaurant were contacted an interviewed about their health and food histories. A total of ten cases was dentified and a case-control study was initiated. Stool samples were collected from a few cases and analysis showed they were infected with Norovirus. Consumption of the broccoli and cheese soup was the only statistically significant exposure. Those who ate the soup were over 34 times more likely to get sick than those who did not. The restaurant was inspected and health officials found multiple violations relating to food safety. One of the employees had been ill with gastrointestinal symptoms prior to the outbreak.
