2004 Outbreak of Norovirus Linked to Apple Valley Restaurant Sandwich, Minnesota
The state department of health received a report of gastrointestinal illness in ten members of a group who had eaten at a local restaurant. An additional complaint was received two days later. Both groups had eaten on August 9, and an analysis of food histories showed significant risk of illness associated with consumption of sandwich-like entrees. Food workers at the restaurant were interviewed and five reported illness in the days around August 9. The health department ordered the restaurant closed on August 13 due to the high number of ill food workers. The outbreak was likely due to contamination of ready-to-eat items used in the sandwiches by ill food workers.
