2006 Outbreak of Botulism Linked to Chicken Broth, Nevada
A Nevada couple presented symptoms of botulism poisoning at a Washoe County hospital. This was reported to the county health department for further investigation. A food history was taken and officials took food samples from the couples house. A can of open chicken stock, mashed potatoes and cooked turkey mixed with the potatoes tested positive for Clostridium botulinum type A. The chicken broth was used in the preparation of the potatoes.
