An end of season picnic for a Virginia little league team resulted in Campylobacter jejuni infections for fifteen people. The local health department was notified of the outbreak. They conducted a cohort survey and determined that watermelon was the likely source of the infection. The health department workers found no obvious source of contamination, indicating contact with Campylobacter bacteria was probably from the preparation process.
