Six separate incidents of confirmed and probable illness involving Staphylococcus aureus food poisoning occurred on the island of Maui, Hawaii. The illnesses were linked to the consumption of Spam musubi. Spam musubi is composed of a block of rice with a slice of grilled Spam on top and a wrapping of nori seaweed. Consumer mishandling of the product likely contributed to the illnesses. The product had been purchased from several different vendors.
