In October 2008 local and state health officials in Wisconsin and Minnesota investigated an outbreak of Arcobacter butzleri among attendees at a wedding reception held at a rural banquet and catering facility located in Wisconsin. Among the 280 guests, 51 individuals had illnesses meeting the case definition of having diarrhea within 7 days of the reception held on October 17. Four of 5 stool specimens were positive for Arcobacter by PCR. There was strong epidemiologic evidence between illness and consumption of chicken at the reception.

No case sought medical attention or was hospitalized. There were no deaths.
