A confirmed outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections occurred among people who had eaten watermelon at a multi-site day care center program in California. The day care centers were served by a central kitchen. The likely origin of the outbreak was an infected food worker who then contaminated the watermelon that was served on October 14. Ill food workers continued to work while ill.
