2008 Multistate Outbreak of Gastroenteritis Linked to Tasso's Restaurant
An outbreak of foodborne illness was first noted among employees of a hospital in Johnson County, Kansas. The nine employees had eaten a catered meal prepared by Tasso's Restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri on March 18. Eight other groups, located in both Kansas and Missouri, also received catered foods on that same day. Illness questionnaires were provided to these persons and thirty two additional illnesses were discovered. Eating salad, chicken, carrots, or soda appeared to increase one's risk of illness, however, none of these food items associations were statistically significant. No critical food violations or ill food handlers were identified at Tasso's Restaurant.
