2009 Outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup Linked to Umpqua Dairy Products, Co. Pasteurized Milk, Oregon
An outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup was associated with drinking pasteurized milk produced by the Umpqua Dairy Products Co. The dairy, located in Roseburg, Oregon, produced only pasteurized milk. The outbreak strain of Salmonella Braenderup was detected in equipment that washes and sanitizes crates receiving packaged milk and juice. This finding resulted in a recall of milk, cream, buttermilk, and juice products produced at this plant.
The Oregon Health Division concluded that the outbreak resulted from external contamination of sealed containers. No contamination was found in the milk.
