Onion and alfalfa sprouts manufactured by Living Foods, Limited, Alberta, Canada, and Sunsprout Natural Foods, Brantford, Ontario, Canada, were suspected as the cause of an outbreak of Salmonella Cubana, a rare strain of Salmonella. The sprouts may have been distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Some of the ill persons recalled eating sprouts. Two of the cases occurred in Minnesota.
