2010 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 and Campylobacter Linked to Raw Goat Milk, Colorado
An outbreak of E. coli O157 and Campylobacter occurred among persons who drank raw goat's milk from the Billy Goat Dairy in Longmont, Colorado. The Billy Goat Dairy operated a goat share program in which customers bought a share of a goat and in return received raw, unpasteurized milk. Samples of the unpasteurized milk tested positive for the same strains of Campylobacter and E. coli that made the people sick. The local health department ordered the dairy to stop distributing the milk on June 29, but then allowed the dairy to resume operation on July 14.
