In 2010, six states reported 13 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections associated with consuming pre-packaged salad mix. Illness onsets began in April. Two people were hospitalized. No one died.

Traceback conducted by Minnesota identified two possible lot numbers of salad mix in common. The two lots were produced on April 8 and April 9 at a facility in Illinois. Minnesota Department of Agriculture and Minnesota Department of Health worked with the producer to identify common ingredients in salad varieties produced on those two dates. No ingredients were used exclusively. All the ingredients were also used in many other salad varieties.

By the time the investigation occurred, salad lots in question were well past their Use By Dates. Additionally, it was clear the outbreak had ended and no new cases were being identified. Therefore, no recall was issued.
