2010 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Linked to Baugher's Orchard and Farm Unpasteurized Apple Cider, Maryland
An outbreak linked to drinking Baugher's Orchard and Farm apple cider and E. coli O157:H7 was announced by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on November 5, 2012. In total 7 patients were identified. Five patients were confirmed with E. coli O157; 2 patients were classified at "probable" cases. Illness onsets ranged from October 21 to October 28. All ill patients consumed Baugher's unpasteurized juice. Samples of juice collected from retail outlets and consumers were positive for total coliforms and 3 of 5 samples were positive for a non-Shiga toxin producing E. coli.
