Members of a swim team were infected with Cryptosporidium hominis subtype HGP25 after swimming at a community center pool in St. Louis Park, Minnesota multiple times in August and September 2011. Eleven outbreak associated cases were identified. Two specimens were positive for Cryptosporidium hominis at the Minnesota Department of Health Public Health Laboratory. Illness onset dates ranged from August 11 to September 16. No cases were hospitalized for their illness. No one died.

The community center pool was closed for the season at the time the investigation was initiated. Although the original source of contamination was not confirmed, an infectious pool user most likely introduced the parasite into the pool. Swim team members continuing to swim while ill or recently ill likely led to additional team members becoming ill.
