2011 Outbreak of Gastroenteritis Associated with a Restaurant in Glenwood, Minnesota
In January 2011, four people from different households who dined at a restaurant in Glenwood, Minnesota on January 3 became ill with diarrhea and vomiting. The median incubation period was 16 hours (range, 6.5 to 33 hours). No stool specimen was submitted. No one was hospitalized and no one died.
No food item was significantly associated with illness.
Douglas and Pope Counties Public Health Department (DPCPHD) sanitarians interviewed all 28 restaurant employees. Two employees reported recent gastrointestinal illness. Stool specimens were provided to both ill employees but were not returned. Public health investigators concluded this was a probable foodborne outbreak explained by contamination of ready-to-eat foods by ill employees.
