In December 2011, public health and agriculture officials in Kansas investigated an outbreak of gastroenteritis associated with Taco Grande, a fast food restaurant at 412 E 23rd Street, Hays, Kansas. Five outbreak associated cases were identified. None of the cases submitted a specimen for testing. No one was hospitalized and no one died. Meal dates ranged from December 9-11, 2011.

The restaurant inspection by Kansas Department of Agriculture revealed one critical violation — improper cooling times were observed. Of the fifteen employee surveys returned to KDHE, two employees reported diarrhea on December 10, but no other symptoms of gastrointestinal illness.
