In October 2012 the Vermont Department of Health investigated an outbreak of Campylobacter jejuni infections. A query of PulseNet led to the identification of one additional case each from New Hampshire and New York and another case in Vermont occurring in the preceding 6 months. The first two cases became ill in April, 2012. Case #3 became ill in June. Three case patients experienced onset in September 2012. One person was hospitalized. No one died.

All 6 patients had been exposed to raw or lightly cooked chicken livers that were produced at the same Vermont poultry establishment. The producer agreed to stop selling chicken livers on November 9, 2012. C. jejuni was recovered from chicken livers collected from the producer and one isolate was a genetic match to the strain found in patients.
