In 2012 a nationwide outbreak of Salmonella Muenchen infections occurred. Twenty-one outbreak associated cases were identified. One person was hospitalized. No one died. Onset dates ranged from March 29 through August 28, 2012.

Four (33%) of 12 cases with available information reported contact with live poultry prior to illness onset. Source hatchery information was available for two cases. Both were traced to ducklings and chicks from a hatchery in Zeeland, Michigan.
