2012 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections Linked to Mitchell Hill Farm Unpasteurized Apple Cider, Michigan
In November 2012 Michigan public health officials investigated an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections linked to consumption of unpasteurized apple cider produced by Mitchell Hill Farm in Ellsworth, Michigan. Four individuals were hospitalized, including two children. In February 2014 James Ruster, owner of Mitchell Hill Farm, was sentenced to 14-48 months in prison plus fines and court costs for selling misbranded and adulterated food products.
