The Allegheny County Health Department and Whole Foods Market announced that Jean Perrin Edel de Cleron cheese sold in the East Liberty Whole Foods Market store was linked to listeriosis in a 69 year old Westmoreland County man. The man fell ill on June 7 and was hospitalized. On July 12, 2012 Whole Foods Market issued a recall of Jean Perrin Edel de Cleron cheese sold at the East Liberty store. Health department spokesperson, Guillermo Cole, said that it took a month for investigators to "get positive test results on foods" the patient had consumed."

The recalled cheese was cut and packaged in clear plastic wrap with a Whole Foods Market scale label, and a code beginning with 293351. The recalled cheese was sold between May 20 and July 3, 2012. It was a soft, pasteurized cow's milk made in France.

The store and health department worked to ensure that no cross-contamination occurred and that equipment and utensils used in cutting, weighing or packaging the cheese wasn't contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
