2014 Outbreak of Botulism Linked to Contaminated Seal Oil, Alaska
A botulism outbreak linked to contaminated seal oil produced in the village of Twin Hills, Alaska was reported by local and state health officials in December 2014. As many as 25 people were ill. Ill patients lived in Quinhagak, Twin Hills and Dillingham. Testing of the seal oil at the state public health laboratory revealed high levels of botulinum toxin.
