2014 Outbreak of Salmonella and E. coli Infections Infections at a luncheon in Decatur, Alabama
At least 19 people became ill following a luncheon held on May 30, 2014 at the Bridge Builders Church in Decatur, Alabama. A private laboratory tested specimens from 9 persons. One tested positive for E. coli, one tested positive for Salmonella, and one tested positive for both E. coli and Salmonella. The other tests were negative. The Alabama Department of Public Health was conducting confirmatory testing on one specimen.
One person died six days after the event. A family member said the decedent tested positive for E. coli.
