2014 Outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium at Jewel Osco Deli, Illinois

In June 2014 Cook County Department of Public Health investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium among consumers of deli products or chicken sold at Jewel Osco in Tinley Park, Illinois. Nineteen case patients (14 confirmed and 5 probable) were identified. Two secondary cases occurred. Illness onset dates ranged from May 9, 2014 to June 9, 2014. Two food handlers tested positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella Typhimurium.
