The CDC, FDA and several states investigated an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to consumption of Dole packaged salads produced at the Springfield, Ohio processing facility. A total of 19 people residing in 9 states were infected by the outbreak strain. All 19 people were hospitalized. One person from Michigan died. One illness was reported in a pregnant woman. Whole genome sequencing performed on Listeria isolates from all 19 ill people showed that the isolates were closely related genetically. Listeria specimens were collected from July 5, 2015 to January 31, 2016. Ill people ranged in age from 3 years to 83 years. the median age was 64 years. The outbreak was assigned CDC Outbreak Code 1509MLGX6-2WGS

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, 14 ill people in Canada were infected with the same outbreak strain of Listeria. All 14 people in Canada were hospitalized. There were 3 deaths among Canadian patients. Individuals in Canada became ill between May 2015 and February 2016.
