In 2015 local, state and federal agencies investigated four outbreaks of Salmonella infections linked to live poultry in backyard flocks. As of July 29, 2015 a total of 218 had been infected with Salmonella and reported by 41 states. Fifty people were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.

Cluster One: Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak in California, New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia and Washington. Illness onsets ranged from January 5, 2015 to July 4, 2015. Seven were hospitalized.

Cluster Two: Salmonella Hadar outbreak in California, New York, Virginia, and Washington. Illnesses ranged between February 24, 2015 and July 6, 2015. Twenty six people were hospitalized.

Cluster Three: Salmonella Indiana outbreak in California, New York, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Illnesses occurred between January 5, 2015 and June 24, 2015. Nine people were hospitalized.

Cluster Four: Salmonella Muenchen or Salmonella Muenster outbreak in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Illnesses occurred between March 8, 2015 and July 11, 2015. Eight were hospitalized.
