2015 Outbreak of Norovirus Associated with Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant, Shawnee County, Kansas
In December 2015, an outbreak of norovirus occurred among patrons of the Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant located in Topeka, Kansas. Six out of 16 individuals from three households who dined together reported illness. The implicated meal date was December 23, 2015. Three stool specimens tested positive for norovirus genogroup II. No one was hospitalized and no one died.
The Kansas Department of Agriculture conducted an inspection of the restaurant on December 29, 2015. Six priority violations were found including cold holding violations, date marking violations, and improper chemical storage; all were corrected on site.
All ill individuals reported the same onset date and had no other commonalities in the week prior, indicating this was a point-source outbreak, but no specific food or drink item was implicated.
