In 2015 approximately 150 guests attended a wedding reception at a Richmond, Virginia food establishment. Shortly thereafter, the Richmond City Health District received reports of vomiting and diarrhea among people who had attended the event. Thirty four guests reported symptoms. Norovirus was detected in 8 stool specimens. Twenty four staff reported symptoms occurring between February 1 and March 25, 2015. Investigators determined that bare hand contact of ready to eat foods and poor hand hygiene by ill food workers were contributing factors in the outbreak.
