In July 2015, the McHenry County Health Department (MCHD) investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections among people who attended a catered funeral luncheon at McHenry Moose Lodge #691. The meal was catered by Family Affair Catering. Although MCHD receives numerous reports of illness associated with the luncheon, many people declined to be interviewed. Thus, a total of 16 people were counted as outbreak cases. One person was hospitalized and no one died. Six stool specimens were positive for Salmonella Typhimurium.

Investigators concluded the most likely contaminated vehicle was undercooked chicken served at the luncheon.
