2015 Outbreak of Shigella sonnei, Mariscos San Juan Restaurant, Santa Clara County, California
In October 2015 local and state investigators in California were notified of an outbreak of Shigella sonnei among patrons of Mariscos San Juan Restaurant #3, located at 205 North 4th Street in San Jose, California. Ill persons ate food from the restaurant on October 16 or October 17. The restaurant closed on October 18. As of November 9, 2015, 194 ill persons had been identified. One hundred eleven were laboratory confirmed with Shigella. Menu items containing shrimp were the suspected source of illness.
