2016 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Infantis Linked to Backyard Chickens
In 2016 public health officials investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Infantis associated with contact with backyard chickens. A total of 219 people infected with the outbreak strain was reported from 39 states. Among people who reported the date they became ill, illnesses began between February 15, 2016 and September 10, 2016. Forty nine people were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.
