2016 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonellosis Linked to Sprouts Extraordinaire Sprouts
Local, state and federal officials investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Reading and Salmonella Abony infections linked to consumption of alfalfa sprouts produced by Sprouts Extraordinaire of Denver, Colorado. On September 30, 2016 the CDC declared the outbreak over. Nine states reported 36 people infected with the outbreak strains. Thirty people were infected with Salmonella Reading. One person was infected with Salmonella Abony and five people were infected with both serotypes. Seven people were hospitalized. There were no deaths. Illness onset dates ranged from May 21, 2016 to September 10, 2016.
