2017-2018 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:1:- Associated with Empire Kosher Brand Chicken
In August 2018 the CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the USDA FSIS announced an outbreak of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:1:- associated with consumption of Empire Kosher brand chicken. As of December 7, 2018 there were 25 outbreak associated cases. Eleven people had been hospitalized and there was one death in New York. Illnesses started on dates from September 25, 2017 to August 13, 2018.
The outbreak strain was isolated in samples of raw chicken collected from two facilities including one facility that process Empire Kosher brand chicken.
