2017-2018 Outbreak of Salmonella Javiana Infections at a Senior Care Center, Seattle, Washington
Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections at Providence Mount St. Vincent, a senior care center located in west Seattle. Three cases were identified. Two of the 3 people infected with the outbreak strain of S. Javiana spent time at and consumed food from Providence Mount St. Vincent prior to becoming ill. Illness onset dates ranged fro December 2, 2017 to March 28, 2018. One person was hospitalized. No one died.
On April 19, 2018 PHSKC Environmental Health investigators conducted a field investigation at the facility. They did not identify any food handling or patient care practices that could increase the risk for Salmonella infection among patients, nor were any ill employees identified.
