In July 2017 Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) investigators learned of a second outbreak of vibrio parahaemolyticus linked to raw oysters sold at a Seattle restaurant, Salted Sea. The same restaurant was implicated in an outbreak of vibriosis in June 2017. In July 3 PHSKC received 4 separate reports of 9 ill persons with Vibrio-like symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating raw oysters at Salted Sea. Exposure dates ranged from July 2 to July 11. No one was hospitalized and no one died. None of the ill people submitted specimens for laboratory testing but oysters were positive by PCR for vibrio. Investigators traced the oysters to a Hood Canal growing area which was closed after this outbreak.
