2017 Multistate Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections Linked to IM Healthy SoyNut Butter
Local, state and federal public health and regulatory officials investigated an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections linked to consumption of IM Healthy SoyNut Butter manufactured by Dixie Dew Products, Inc. of Erlander, Kentucky. Thirty-two illnesses were reported from Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, Oregon, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. Twelve people were hospitalized. Nine people developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. No deaths were reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from January 4, 2017 to April 18, 2017.
Twenty five of the 32 ill cases reached for interview reported either eating IM Healthy SoyNut Butter at home in the week before they became ill, attending a facility that served IM Healthy SoyNut Butter, or attending childcare centers that served IM Healthy SoyNut Butter and IM Healthy granola. On March 3, 2017 the product was recalled.
