2017 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Urbana Infections Linked to Maradol Papayas

In 2017 seven people were infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Urbana. Illnesses were linked to consumption of Maradol papayas. Illness onset dates ranged from July 23, 2017 to August 14, 2017. Four people were hospitalized. There were no deaths. Epidemiologic and laboratory evidence indicated that Maradol papayas from the El Zapotanito farm in La Huerta, Mexico were the likely source of the outbreak.
