2017 Outbreak of Clostridium perfringens Infections, Rifle Rodeo, Colorado

In June 2017 public health officials in Colorado investigated a large outbreak of Clostridium perfringens infections among attendees of the Rifle Rodeo held at the Garfield County Fairgrounds on June 5. There were 80 ill persons. Two were laboratory confirmed. No one was hospitalized and no one died. The outbreak was traced to food served by an unlicensed vendor at the event. The suspected food item was BBQ pork that was prepackaged, cooked and hot held prior to service.
