An outbreak of norovirus occurred among members of an extended family who ate at a restaurant located in Elbow Lake, Minnesota on May 25. Six patrons met the case definition for an outbreak case. No one was hospitalized and no one died. A stool specimen submitted by an ill patron was positive for norovirus GI.P2-GI.2.

Cases reported consuming a variety of foods including burgers, chicken strips, Philly cheesesteak sandwich, shrimp, and side salad. The small number of non-ill controls precluded a meaningful statistical analysis.

Minnesota Department of Health Environmental Health sanitarians interviewed 26 restaurant employees. Three reported recent gastrointestinal illness. Dates of illness onset for employees were May 15, May 24, and May 27.

A vehicle was not identified. The source of contamination was likely an infected food worker.
